This is an adorable apron upcycled from a square dance skirt. It has a panel of white and a panel of red checked material with a red ruffle at the bottom. It has black ric rac detail and the ties were created from a reclaimed cotton sheet. This apron will easily fit petite sizes on through plus sizes. Just wrap around the petite waist and tie in the front, tie in the back for a fuller plus sized apron.

Machine wash and dry inside a garment bag.

“I am Christine of Gemini Vintage Store. I love vintage items and vintage inspired styles. I am a child of the 1970 (and a teen of the 80s) and consider myself somewhat a connoisseur of later mid-century styles and decor.
My grandmother was born in 1909 and was quite good at cooking, sewing, crochet and knitting. She taught me three of those four skills and one I learned in school (you guess which, ha!). These useful and charming crafts seemed to have skipped a generation or two and many of our mothers and grandmothers no longer know how to do them. Because of this, I consider these to be vintage crafts, even when they are used to create modern items.
I am mom to two human children. My big boy is attending college and my little girl is a freshman in high school.. I am also mom to ~ ready for this? ~ three dogs, five cats, four turtles and a 29 year old parrot. I set up a studio in my 1978 Shasta RV where I love to work in…”

How-to crochet 0-3 month baby girl hat with pop out flower

Only $10.99!

I have been creating tons of little girl items, while waiting ever so patiently for my little one to arrive. This is the hat that I had crocheted earlier this morning. This is my first flower… I think I did pretty darn good!

Needed:

  • Hook, size J
  • Two colors of yarn, worsted weight.
  • Yarn needle

For this project you will need to know how to:

  • Create a magic circle-  http://youtu.be/FPj8fLdyb0Q
  • Chain
  • Slip Stitch (SL)
  • Half Double Crochet (HDC)
  • Treble Crochet (TC)

Let begin!

I used two strands of yarn at the same time. (I use both ends of a skein when using the same color)

Using the purple yarn…

Round 1: Create a magic circle and make 8 HDC inside the circle. Pull the ring tight. SL the round together. (8)

Round 2:Chain 1. Make 2 HDC in each stitch around. SL the round together. (16)

Round 3: Chain 1. Make 2 HDC in the first stitch, and then make 1 HDC in the next stitch. Repeat pattern around. SL the round together when end is reached. (24)

Round 4: Chain 1. Make 2 HDC in the first stitch, and then make 1 HDC in the next 2 stitches. Repeat pattern around. SL the round together when the end is reached. (36)

Round 5-9 Chain 1. Make 1 HDC in each stitch around. SL the round together when the end is reached. (36)

Switch colors to blue

Round 10-12: Chain 1. Make 1 SC in each stitch around. SL the round together when the end is reached. (36)

Finish off.

Flower: Using blue first:

Round 1: Create a magic circle and create 10 HDC inside. Pull ring tight and SL to join the round together.

Round 2:* You will be making each crochet in the first stitch. *  ** SL. Chain 2. TC. Chain 2. HDC. Chain 2. TR. Chain 2. SL.* *  SL in the next stitch.  Repeat around, creating 5 flower petals. Finish off.

Purple trim on flower:

Round 3: SL in every front loop around the flower. When completed continue to SL inside the flower, creating a ring. When end is met, finish off.

Attaching Flower to Hat. Find where you would like your flower, Higher or lower then my placement will have no affect in of the pattern.

Using Purple yarn, and your yarn needle. Sew the flower to the hat by using the small inner circle. I made two laps of sewing, just to make sure it was secure. Finish off.

If you have found any errors or have any questions, please let me know.
